Jordan’s TRC and RIPE NCC Host Advanced IPv6 Regional Training in Amman to Boost Network Readiness in Jordan and Syria
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), in collaboration with the RIPE Network Coordination Centre, successfully concluded a three-day Advanced Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) regional training in Amman, aimed at enhancing network readiness and strengthening digital infrastructure across Jordan and Syria.
The specialized programme attracted broad participation from telecommunications operators and Internet service providers from both countries, alongside regional and international partners, including the International Telecommunication Union, United Nations Development Programme, GSMA, and Arab Regional Internet and Service Providers Association.
Organized under the framework of an existing Memorandum of Understanding between TRC and the RIPE NCC, the initiative forms part of their ongoing joint capacity-building efforts to advance secure, resilient, and inclusive Internet ecosystems in line with regional digital transformation priorities and Arab cooperation frameworks.
Her Excellency Ms. Lara Al-Khatib, Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners at TRC, emphasized that the training reaffirms the Commission’s dedication to bolstering national and regional efforts to modernize digital networks.
“IPv6 adoption is now a practical necessity to sustain the growth of Internet and digital services,” she said. “It enhances reliability, scalability, and security while preparing our infrastructure for the evolving needs of the digital economy.”
Echoing this commitment, Dr. Chafic Chaya, Regional Manager for Public Policy and Government Affairs at the RIPE NCC, stated:
“This training is part of the RIPE NCC’s long-term strategy to support our members through capacity building and technical expertise. By enabling a smooth transition to IPv6, we help strengthen network stability, performance, and resilience across the region.”
The workshop featured a comprehensive mix of theoretical and practical sessions. The first day focused on IPv6 fundamentals, deployment planning, and transition strategies, while days two and three delved into advanced topics such as infrastructure configuration, routing, deployment methodologies, and network security. Participants engaged in interactive, hands-on exercises designed to strengthen technical teams’ preparedness for upcoming deployment phases.
This initiative also supports regional and global policy frameworks, including the decisions of the Arab ICT Ministers Council, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the WSIS+20 outcomes, and the Global Digital Compact (GDC). Together, these align with the shared mission of TRC and the RIPE NCC to advance meaningful connectivity, digital inclusion, and network resilience across the Arab world.
