Huawei Cloud Goes Live in Egypt
Huawei has launched a new Cloud Region in Egypt, becoming the first company to establish a public cloud in the country. This significant development, announced at the Huawei Cloud Summit 2024 in Cairo, marks an important milestone for the company as it expands its cloud services to Northern Africa. The Cairo Region will leverage Huawei Cloud’s intelligent and innovative capabilities, serving as a hub for digital transformation in the region.
This new addition brings Huawei Cloud's global presence to 93 availability zones across 33 regions. At the summit, Huawei also introduced its new Arabic Large Language Model (LLM), aimed at supporting digital transformation in various industries across the region. The LLM's automatic speech recognition (ASR) service covers more than 20 Arabic-speaking countries, boasting an accuracy rate of 96%.
Dr. Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, highlighted the importance of cloud computing in modern digital infrastructure, emphasizing its economic and technological benefits. He noted Egypt's early adoption of a cloud computing policy to enhance resource flexibility and efficiency.
Zhang Chaoyang, Minister of the Chinese embassy in Egypt, praised Huawei’s integration into the local digital innovation ecosystem and its contributions to the development of the communications industry in Egypt since 2000.
Jacqueline Shi, President of Huawei Cloud Global Marketing and Sales Service, emphasized Huawei Cloud's role in supporting Egypt Vision 2030. She stated, "With our unique capabilities across chipset, AI computing framework, and training platform, we believe we can help the country build its data sovereignty and own large language models, which are essential to protecting and passing on the country's history, culture, and knowledge."
Mark Chen, President of Huawei Cloud's Global Solution Sales Department, introduced the CHANGE architecture at the event. This new cloud native infrastructure aims to provide better, more efficient services for various industries, including finance, government, e-commerce, and media.
Huawei also announced a $300 million investment over the next five years to develop the new Egypt Region. This investment will support over 200 cloud services, including AI platforms, data platforms, and development platforms. Huawei plans to empower 200 local software partners, 1,300 channel partners, and nurture a thriving local software and application ecosystem. Additionally, Huawei aims to train 10,000 local developers and educate 100,000 digital professionals in the region to drive intelligent transformation.
The summit also saw upgrades to Huawei's startup program in Egypt, which will provide advanced cloud platforms, training programs, and business resources. The Huawei Cloud Startup Program will offer cloud credits worth up to $150,000 for startups, along with dedicated advisory teams to support cloud adoption.
