HBMSU Chancellor Emphasises Critical Thinking and Self-Directed Learning in Smart Education
Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a smart learning culture, with its Chancellor, Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, highlighting the importance of critical thinking, self-directed learning, and active student participation in shaping the future of education.
Speaking during a live interactive ‘Dialogue with the Chancellor’ session with undergraduate learners, Dr. Al Awar said a smart university extends beyond adopting advanced technologies. Instead, it represents an educational model that redefines the roles of learners and faculty members, positioning students as active partners in creating and advancing knowledge.
Moving Beyond Information Consumption
During the session, Dr. Al Awar emphasised the need for learners to move beyond simply consuming information and develop the ability to question, analyse and apply knowledge in practical contexts.
The discussion highlighted the importance of independent learning and critical thinking in preparing students to engage meaningfully with their education and take greater responsibility for their academic development.
Students Help Shape the Future of Learning
The ‘Dialogue with the Chancellor’ session also provided a platform for undergraduate learners to share their perspectives and aspirations for the future of their educational journey.
The exchange reflected HBMSU’s emphasis on creating a learning environment in which students actively contribute to discussions about education and its evolving role.
The university’s approach places the impact of education at the centre of its smart learning philosophy, emphasising that a smart university should be measured not merely by the technology it uses, but by how it transforms the way people learn, think and develop knowledge.
