GE Healthcare introduces its latest medical technology designed to tackle Middle East healthcare challenges
GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) is showcasing some of its latest medical technology under the theme of Advancing Healthcare Together at the 40th Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, the Middle East and Africas premier healthcare conference, to be held at the Dubai International Convention Center from January 26 to 29, 2015.
By 2030, almost 80 percent of mortalities in ME are forecast to result from non-communicable diseases. With growing rates of cardiovascular and oncological diseases placing significant burden on the region's healthcare systems, optimizing system efficiencies whilst increasing productivity and costs, rank among the key priorities. To address this, GE Healthcare is partnering with the region's governments and private healthcare providers to increase access to quality and affordable healthcare for the ME. For GE, its contribution towards sustainable health is delivered through a commitment to innovative its technologies, services and offerings and focus on capacity building and localisation.
Maher Abouzeid, President & CEO of GE Healthcare for Turkey and the Middle East, said: The increasing incidence of lifestyle diseases and population growth in the GCC has caused healthcare expenditure to increase by 10 per cent per year over the last five years. Total healthcare expenditure is now expected to be over US$130 billion in 2018*.
To help cater for the increase in non-communicable diseases and to improve the quality of healthcare whilst bringing costs down, there is greater emphasis from governments to partner with companies that can provide complete solutions that deliver better outcomes, one of the core priorities of GE Healthcare. Its the 40th Arab Health, and GE Healthcare has over 40 years of operations in the region, focusing on helping to deliver customer-oriented solutions that enable caregivers to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance diagnostic competencies, and potentially reduce healthcare expenditure through timely treatment.
At this years event, GEs innovations span multiple care settings from Radiology to Oncology and Cardiology, from Woman and Child Health to Critical Care and the Operating Room. Highlight new product innovations include:
The Voluson E10, a new 4D high-performance ultrasound system, featuring the worlds first curved matrix electronic 4D probe designed specifically for obstetric and gynaecological applications. Aside from parent-pleasing spectacular detailed color images of an unborn child, Voluson E10 allows clinicians to monitor a childs brain and heart development from as early as the first trimester. The 4D probe uses more than 8,000 piezoelectric crystals to electronically steer the ultrasound beam and provide improved clarity and speed. The signals and process information are fast enough to view the heart in real time, says Barbara Del Prince, a global managing director for ultrasound products at GE Healthcare.
The SIGNA** Pioneer with MAGiC , an MR system designed to enable clinicians to scan one more patient, every hour, every day1. Developed in collaboration with SyntheticMR AB, MAGiC is engineered to help clinicians capture six image contrasts in a single scan in one-third of the time an industry first in workflow efficiency. With MAGiC, clinicians can manipulate images and change contrasts post scan. Thats like changing the focus on an image you already took with your digital camera meaning fewer re-scans, less time wasted and no more regrets when it comes to contrast use. Fewer, faster scans producing quality diagnostic images is good news for patients and clinicians alike.
The CARESCAPE R860, an intuitive Critical Care ventilator which uses advanced lung protection tools and an innovative user interface, to help improve patient care. The lung is a delicate and highly sensitive structure, explained Marc Wysocki, MD, Anesthesia and Respiratory Care Medical Director, GE Healthcare. Patients affected by lung disease are highly susceptible to ventilation-associated lung injury, and mechanical ventilation can be detrimental if too much volume or pressure is delivered. This new ventilator helps to address these concerns.
The Discovery* IGS 740, a mobile angiography system, specifically designed to improve clinical efficiency in the operating room, whilst also offering high quality imaging. The fact that it is free standing rather than tethered to the floor or ceiling means that it avoids unnecessary restrictions on a physicians mobility in the theatre. This means the patient can be imaged at any point during a procedure, so operating theatres can be used for a wider range of procedures than would have been previously possible with fixed imaging systems. Its wide bore C-Arm and dedicated arm-imaging positions help clinicians to easily image the anatomy of interest, and offer full patient access from the left or right.
