flydubai Becomes First UAE Carrier to Resume Direct Flights to Damascus After 12 Years
Marking a historic milestone in regional aviation, flydubai has officially resumed operations to Damascus, becoming the first UAE carrier to reconnect Dubai and Syria with daily direct flights starting June 1, 2025.
The inaugural flight FZ 115 departed from Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 2 and landed at Damascus International Airport (DAM) to a ceremonial water cannon salute, signaling the renewed partnership between the two nations after a 12-year suspension of direct air services.
A Symbol of Renewed Bilateral Ties
The arrival was warmly welcomed by dignitaries, including His Excellency Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi, UAE Ambassador to Syria, who emphasized that the resumption reflects the deep-rooted brotherhood and strong diplomatic relations between the UAE and Syria.
“This milestone underscores the UAE’s continued efforts to strengthen economic and cultural connectivity in the region,” stated Ambassador Al Shehhi. “It reaffirms our unwavering support for Syria’s journey toward stability, development, and prosperity.”
Representatives from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, including Deputy Chairman Abdul Bari Al-Saj and Director Amjad Nakhkhal, also participated in the welcome ceremony.
Strategic Connectivity and Economic Opportunities
Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Commercial Officer at flydubai, highlighted the significance of this new route:
“As an important cultural centre in the region, Damascus presents strong opportunities for enhanced trade, tourism, and travel. Our daily flights will serve the needs of both business and leisure travelers, and support regional development.”
