Dubai to Host Open Session on Creatives’ Needs at World Cities Culture Summit 2024

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced an open session, ‘Tomorrow's Talent: What Do Creatives Need from Cities?’, as part of the World Cities Culture Summit 2024 (WCCS). The summit, hosted in Dubai for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region, will run from October 30 to November 1 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture.

With the theme ‘Tomorrow's Culture: How Will the Next Generation Shape Our Future?’, the summit reinforces Dubai's role as a global hub for culture, creativity, and talent. The public session, scheduled for October 31 at Alserkal Avenue, aligns with Dubai Culture's mission to empower creatives and foster dialogue between city leaders and experts, contributing to the future of creative cities.

The panel will feature influential speakers, including Hani Asfour, Vice President of Innovation at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation; Tommaso Sacchi, Deputy Mayor for Cultural Affairs of Milan; Bridget Smyth, City Architect of Sydney; Jader Andre de Souza Rosa, CEO of Itaú Cultural; and Alanood Bukhammas, Professor of Graphic Design at Zayed University. The session will be moderated by Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries of London and Chair of the World Cities Culture Forum.

The discussion will explore the evolving needs of creatives in urban settings, focusing on affordable workspaces, technological integration, and innovative education. The aim is to ensure cities like Dubai attract and retain creative talent through strong cultural infrastructure.

The summit’s opening ceremony will take place at Al Shindagha Museum, the UAE’s largest open heritage museum, showcasing Dubai’s leadership in blending tradition with modernity. The World Cities Culture Forum, which includes over 45 cities across six continents, fosters global cooperation in cultural policy development and enhances the role of culture in improving urban living standards.
