Dubai Municipality Conducts Over 52,000 Inspections in Environment, Health, and Food Sectors During First Half of 2024

Dubai Municipality conducted a comprehensive inspection campaign, completing 52,233 visits across the fields of environment, health, and food safety during the first half of 2024. These inspections aimed to ensure compliance with established standards for consumer products, food safety, general health, and environmental regulations within the city.

Key Inspection Highlights:

  • Health and Safety: A total of 26,566 inspections were carried out through six campaigns targeting various sectors including hotels, shisha cafes, hair salons, beauty centers, workers' accommodations, and societal markets. The inspections also covered public places, playgrounds, event venues, industrial and professional enterprises, infrastructure projects, and temporary activities. Notably, over 17,000 shipments of consumer products, equating to 145,000 tons, were evaluated at ports to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Food Safety: The food safety inspection teams conducted 18,374 inspections at food establishments, including restaurants, hotels, cafes, commercial centers, hypermarkets, supermarkets, and temporary events. The Municipality reported 2,733 food safety issues. During this period, 25,000 food establishments were registered in Dubai, with 1,373 new establishments opening.

  • Environmental Sustainability: The Municipality’s environmental teams completed 4,331 inspections, including 3,378 visits to projects, industrial, and service facilities. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. A smart inspection system was used to enhance efficiency. Additional efforts included 783 inspections of marine environments and coastal regions, and 170 visits as part of a natural reserves monitoring program.

  • Public Health: In public health, 2,962 inspections were carried out, including 2,625 visits to veterinary facilities and 337 to public health pest control companies. The Municipality issued 305 No Objection Certifications (NOCs) for veterinary-related activities and 1,963 veterinary health certifications for export shipments. Furthermore, they managed 3,305 reports related to stray animals and incidents of non-compliance with animal welfare regulations.

  • Dubai Central Laboratory: The laboratory inspected 13,600 legal measuring instruments, such as tire pressure gauges, fuel meters, taxi meters, electronic balances, and pre-packaged products, achieving a conformity rate exceeding 99%.

Dr. Naseem Mohammad Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health & Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the Municipality’s dedication to maintaining high standards in the food, environment, and safety sectors. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to create a sustainable environment and support a flexible food supply chain, enhancing Dubai's appeal as a city with a high quality of life.
