Dubai Customs showcases its leading smart services experience to the WCOs Permanent Technical Committee in Brussels

Dubai Customs recently took part in a session for the WCOs Permanent Technical Committee (PTC) in Brussels. The session was held to unify standards, highlight customs procedures improvement studies, and provide best IT solutions for challenges and emerging issues for customs administrations of the WCO member states.

Younis Othman, Director of Information Technology Department at the Customs Development Division in Dubai Customs, showcased DCs leading experience in deploying top-notch technical solutions to facilitate trade and secure borders, in response to the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the worlds smartest city within 3 years, by taking services quality and delivery channels to a new height.

Mr Othman delivered two lectures at the session in presence of representatives from global customs organisations. In the first lecture, he showcased Dubai Customs smart services, while in the second he presented the cutting-edge solutions used in post clearance audits. Attendees hailed the remarkable achievements of Dubai in general and Dubai Customs in particular.

We in Dubai Customs strive to incorporate world-class technologies in customs work. Dubai Customs, being the first fully smart government department in Dubai delivering all services on mobile phones, never spares any effort to seek further innovation in the field of customer service. Dubai Customs launched a revamped Dubai Customs smart phone-enabled website and smart watch services, adding on more flexibility, speed and smoothness to services, he added.

DCs technical achievements include 100% automation of external services and 97% of internal services, in addition to saving AED 167 million due the implementation of to various IT initiatives. DC generated a revenue of AED 75 million in the past three years, as a direct result of deploying post clearance audit system, and the time needed to complete duties payment processes was reduced by 95% thanks to the application of the virtual account system.
