Digital Dubai wins GCC award for Data.Dubai open data portal

Digital Dubai has won the Distinguished Project Award in the Best Open Data Initiative category at the seventh GCC Digital Government Award for its Data.Dubai portal, the emirate's official platform for government data and statistics.

The award was presented at a ceremony organised by Bahrain's Information and eGovernment Authority. Younus Al Nasser, Chief Executive of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment at Digital Dubai, received the award on behalf of the organisation.

The recognition highlights Dubai's efforts to develop an integrated government data ecosystem, improve the availability and quality of information, and expand the use of data in planning, decision-making and public service development.

Data.Dubai supports government and business users

Data.Dubai provides a unified source of official data and statistics about the emirate. Government entities, businesses, researchers and members of the public can use the platform to access information for analysis, planning and the development of services and products.

The portal is part of Dubai's wider efforts to promote open data and encourage its use across different sectors, particularly as artificial intelligence becomes more widely adopted.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai, said the award reflected the leadership's vision of treating data as a strategic asset and an important factor in the emirate's future competitiveness and quality of life.

He said city leadership was increasingly defined by the ability to use data, knowledge and AI to build more efficient governments, competitive economies and prosperous societies.

Al Mansoori added that the recognition reflected collaboration among Dubai Government entities, noting that the development of a connected digital ecosystem required government bodies to work towards shared objectives.

Focus on data-driven innovation and AI

Al Nasser said the award recognised Dubai's efforts to establish data as a resource for development, innovation and future planning.

He said data was becoming increasingly important beyond providing information and supporting decisions, with applications in developing smarter solutions, anticipating needs, improving service efficiency and creating economic opportunities.

He added that Digital Dubai was working with partners to build a trusted data ecosystem based on data quality, governance and accessibility. The aim is to enable government entities, private companies, researchers and innovators to turn information into practical knowledge and solutions.

The initiative also supports the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the emirate's wider digital transformation ambitions.

GCC Digital Government Award

Launched in 2009, the GCC Digital Government Award recognises digital government initiatives and practices across government entities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The award aims to encourage innovation and competition, promote the exchange of expertise and highlight projects that improve quality of life and strengthen regional competitiveness.
