DCO launches global ‘Ctrl+Alt+Delete’ campaign to combat online misinformation

The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has launched a global campaign titled “Stop Online Misinformation: Ctrl+Alt+Delete”, aimed at countering the spread of online misinformation and strengthening trust in the digital economy.

The initiative calls for coordinated action from governments, media organisations, digital platforms, and the private sector, underscoring the growing recognition of misinformation as both an economic and societal challenge.

Culmination of year-long multilateral engagement

According to DCO, the campaign marks the culmination of sustained multilateral and multistakeholder engagement over the past year. It is anchored in the organisation’s Online Content Integrity initiative, which focuses on promoting responsible digital practices and reinforcing public confidence in digital ecosystems.

The rollout will take place in phased stages, supported by stakeholder pledges and commitments, and advanced through policy dialogue, public engagement, and digital activation efforts.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the DCO’s 5th General Assembly in Kuwait, where a high-level ministerial panel discussion addressed strategies to combat online misinformation. The panel brought together members of the Ministerial Committee on Online Misinformation, chaired by the State of Kuwait, and highlighted broad consensus on the need for cross-border collaboration.

Misinformation framed as economic risk

Ms. Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, described online misinformation as a “digital pandemic” that spreads rapidly, erodes public trust, and undermines the foundations of the digital economy.

She warned that unchecked misinformation can weaken institutions, deepen social polarization, and impose tangible economic and social costs worldwide.

DCO emphasised that building resilience against misinformation is critical to maintaining trust — described as the currency of the digital economy — and ensuring that digital transformation continues to support inclusive growth and long-term prosperity.

Advancing digital cooperation

The “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” campaign aligns with DCO’s broader mandate to promote international digital cooperation, foster economic growth, and strengthen resilience in digital spaces. By encouraging collective responsibility and coordinated global action, the organisation aims to safeguard openness while reinforcing the integrity of online content.
