Azizi Developments has signed an agreement with KONE to design and deliver the vertical mobility system for Burj Azizi, the developer’s planned 725-metre tower on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The system will comprise 59 elevators and 15 escalators, with elevator speeds of up to 10 metres per second. The development is also planned to feature one of the world's longest continuous elevator journeys, covering approximately 631.5 metres and connecting key destinations within the tower.
Burj Azizi is planned as a mixed-use development incorporating residential, hospitality, retail and leisure facilities. Once completed, it is expected to become the world's second-tallest tower.
KONE to provide high-rise mobility technology
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at Azizi Developments' offices at Conrad Business Tower in Dubai.
The ceremony was attended by Mirwais Azizi, founder and chairman of Azizi Group, and Philippe Delorme, president and CEO of KONE Corporation. The agreement was signed by Farhad Azizi, group CEO of Azizi Group, and Hady Nemr, managing director of KONE UAE.
Samer Halabi, executive vice president, KONE Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, and Loay Dajani, managing director of KONE Middle East, Türkiye & Africa, also attended the ceremony.
The elevator system will include KONE's high-rise technologies, including an AI-enabled Destination Control System designed to adjust elevator availability according to passenger traffic.
According to simulations cited by the companies, the system could reduce waiting times during peak traffic by approximately 60%. Optimised elevator operations are also intended to help reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
System designed for a 725-metre tower
The vertical transportation system will also use KONE UltraRope technology and KONE MiniSpace elevators. These solutions are designed for high-rise applications and are intended to support vertical travel over significant distances while making efficient use of available space.
Farhad Azizi said the partnership would support the engineering requirements of the 725-metre development, while Hady Nemr said efficient movement of people would be an important part of the experience in a mixed-use tower of this scale.
Burj Azizi planned as a mixed-use landmark
Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Azizi is planned to include ultra-luxury residences, penthouses, a seven-star hotel, retail and entertainment facilities.
The development is also planned to include several high-altitude attractions, including the world's highest observation deck, highest hotel lobby, highest nightclub and the world's second-highest restaurant, according to Azizi Developments.
The agreement builds on an existing relationship between Azizi Developments and KONE. The companies have previously worked together on vertical mobility systems for projects including Azizi Venice and Azizi Riviera, as well as other developments in Dubai.
