ArtintheCity and Dubai Culture & Arts Authority announce the selected artists for the ninth edition of the ArtBus
ArtintheCity in partnership with the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirates dedicated entity for heritage, culture and the arts, has announced the selected UAE based artists who will be commissioned to produce exclusive artworks which will be showcased on the ArtBus as it travels around Dubai from 19 - 21 March 2015.
Now in its ninth year, the ArtBus offers passengers a diverse view of Dubais arts and culture scene, with three routes each taking in a distinct arts area in Dubai. The ArtBus commission initiative offers locally based artists the chance to work with a unique exhibition format, whilst also enabling them to reach a wide audience across Dubai. Artbus is also under the citys umbrella arts initiative that shines the spotlight on the citys cultural and artistic landscape known as Dubai Art Season.
After an open call to UAE based artists, the ArtBus design applications were shortlisted and the Emirati and locally-based artists who have been commissioned to develop their artworks over the coming weeks are Aliaa Bishr, Eman Al Raesi and Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum.
The commissioned artists will see their work, created under the theme Open Air Museum, featured on marketing collateral and printed and wrapped onto the ArtBus from 19 - 21 March 2015, transforming it into a moving artwork and giving the artists visibility across Dubai during a key week in the UAEs arts calendar.
Her Highness Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum is the founder and director of FN Designs, a multi-disciplined art and design studio based in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. She holds a degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors degree in Arts and Design. Curiosity, creativity and aspirations are the heart of her diverse body of work. As the founder of FN Designs she is looking to develop her personal desire for art and design and create a more design-centric social community within Dubai, through innovative and collaborative events.
Aliaa Bishr is a Sharjah-based Egyptian artist who studied for 2 years at the Sharjah Art Institute, in addition to participating in art courses and workshops in Cairo. Her work has been exhibited in a solo exhibition in Sharjah, and 14 group exhibitions in the UAE and Cairo, including the Islamic Arts Festival 2014 in Sharjah. She is also a member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society.
Eman Al Raesi is an Emirati artist whose work has been exhibited in shows including the Sheikha Manal Young Artists Awards shortlisted works exhibition, and the Abu Dhabi Art Wings Design Project. Her work is a mixture between pop surrealism and cubism with a hint of expressionism. Her main inspiration is the local UAE scenery and masters of modernism including Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh.
Each of the commissioned artists will be working on their concepts and preparing their final designs over the coming weeks, and ArtintheCity will be releasing previews of the ArtBus artworks.
