Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital and Zayed National Museum Launch “Morning Hour” Program for Seniors with Memory Impairment

In a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the mental well-being of seniors with memory impairment, Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, under Emirates Health Services (EHS), and Zayed National Museum have launched the “Morning Hour” program. This initiative features five interactive workshops designed to foster communication, evoke memories, and improve the overall quality of life for participants, while also reducing social isolation.

The program integrates history and art to stimulate memory, allowing seniors to engage creatively with museum collections and UAE heritage. Through workshops involving painting, printing, and the use of locally sourced materials like clay and plants, participants explore their memories and emotions, connecting personal experiences with artistic expression.

Promoting Mental Health and Community Integration

Dr. Noor Al Mheiri, Director of the Mental Health Department at EHS, emphasized the importance of this program in advancing mental health services. By partnering with cultural institutions like Zayed National Museum, EHS aims to foster a community-driven approach to mental well-being.

Dr. Ammar Albanna, Director of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, added that the program empowers participants to express themselves creatively, enhancing their mental health and quality of life. The collaboration with Zayed National Museum enriches the program by incorporating Emirati heritage into therapeutic art activities.

Nassra Al Buainain, Acting Learning & Public Engagement Director at Zayed National Museum, reiterated the museum’s dedication to community outreach, particularly to those who may face challenges in accessing cultural spaces. She noted that the program encourages deeper emotional connections through art inspired by UAE heritage.

Supporting Mental Health Awareness Month

The “Morning Hour” program is part of a broader series of events organized by Emirates Health Services during October, themed “Our Mental Health is Everyone’s Responsibility.” These initiatives include exhibitions, workshops, and the “Art of Hope” exhibition, featuring artistic contributions from hospital patients and students with special needs. The agenda also includes the “Customer Councils” initiative, providing a platform for direct communication between Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital and the community to improve services.

These efforts align with EHS’ commitment to advancing mental health services and positioning the UAE as a leader in integrated healthcare.
