Zayed International Airport Launches ‘Shopping Pass’ Allowing Non-Travellers Inside Terminal

Zayed International Airport has introduced a new Shopping Pass initiative, enabling UAE residents and nationals to access its terminal facilities without the need for a boarding pass.

The campaign, which began on April 18, is open for a limited eight-week period and allows visitors to explore the airport’s retail outlets, dining venues, and entertainment offerings without travelling.

How It Works

Visitors must pre-register to obtain a digital security pass, issued as a PDF with a unique QR code. This code must be scanned at designated checkpoints upon entry and exit. Walk-ins are not permitted, with access strictly limited to pre-booked time slots.

Participants who spend a minimum of Dh200 during their visit are eligible for up to four hours of complimentary parking.

Rules and Restrictions

While the initiative opens up the terminal to non-travellers, certain restrictions apply. Alcohol and tobacco products cannot be purchased without a boarding pass, and VAT applies to all eligible purchases. Personal electronic devices such as laptops and tablets are also not permitted inside the terminal.

Visitors are required to carry valid identification and must return their security pass card upon exiting the premises.

Transforming Airport Experience

Formerly known as Abu Dhabi International Airport, Zayed International Airport spans over 780,000 square metres, making it one of the largest airport terminals globally. Its Terminal A—home to Etihad Airways—serves more than 120 destinations across 56 countries and has been recognised as one of the best airports in the Middle East.

The Shopping Pass initiative reflects a growing trend of positioning airports as lifestyle destinations, offering residents a unique opportunity to experience world-class facilities without the need to fly.
