UAE Gears Up for 54th National Day: Long Weekend, Mega Shows, and Dazzling Celebrations Await

Residents across the UAE are preparing for one of the most anticipated events of the year — the 54th National Day celebrations, now known as Eid Al Etihad, or Festival of the Union. While the full schedule of festivities is yet to be announced, early indicators suggest the celebrations will be grander, more technologically advanced, and even more memorable than previous years.

The rebranded name, Eid Al Etihad, reflects the essence of the country's historic unification on December 2, 1971, highlighting themes of unity, strength, heritage, and national pride.

A Golden Opportunity for a 9-Day Break

This year, December 2 and 3 fall on Tuesday and Wednesday. With strategic leave on Monday (Dec 1), Thursday (Dec 4), and Friday (Dec 5), residents can enjoy a 9-day holiday when combined with both weekends — an ideal time for road trips, staycations, or soaking in the festivities.

Past Celebrations Set the Bar High

In 2022, the official show mesmerised audiences with drones, dancers floating above water, and immersive storytelling honouring Emirati heritage. The following year, 2023’s 'The Story of Our Union' featured AI-generated landscapes, augmented reality, and nationwide fireworks, including landmark venues like Global Village, Sharjah Corniche, and Yas Island.

Last year, Al Ain hosted an epic celebration with over 10,000 performers and camels at the scenic Jebel Hafeet, blending nature with culture and history in a magical performance inspired by the Thuraya constellation.

What to Expect for 2025?

While official details are still under wraps, sources indicate that more lights, more tech, more drones, and maybe even surprise concerts are on the cards. Here’s what is likely to be part of this year’s national celebration:

  • Massive fireworks across all seven Emirates.

  • High-tech drone shows, now a National Day staple.

  • Immersive theatrical performances and possibly a new thematic show broadcast nationwide.

  • Cultural parades, public art installations, and interactive experiences celebrating UAE’s rich heritage and futuristic ambitions.

Authorities are urging residents and visitors alike to mark their calendars and get ready to take part in a country-wide celebration of unity, history, and progress.

Stay tuned for the full schedule — but one thing is certain: Eid Al Etihad 2025 will be unforgettable.
