Dubai Announces Eid Al Fitr 2026 Holiday for Public Sector Employees
Authorities in Dubai have announced the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday schedule for public sector employees, confirming a four-day break to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, government employees in the emirate will receive holidays from Thursday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22, 2026, with official work resuming on Monday, March 23.
Moon Sighting to Determine Eid Date
The Eid Al Fitr begins following the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the start of the Hijri month of Shawwal.
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates will attempt to sight the Shawwal crescent after Maghrib prayers on March 18, in line with the Islamic lunar calendar.
Holiday Schedule Across UAE Sectors
Earlier announcements by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed that employees in federal government entities will also receive holidays from March 19 to March 22, returning to work on March 23.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed that private sector employees will receive holidays from Thursday, March 19 to Saturday, March 21.
Employees who normally work on Sundays are expected to return to work on Sunday, March 22.
However, authorities noted that if Ramadan completes 30 days, the private sector holiday may extend to Sunday, March 22, aligning it with the public sector schedule.
Likely Date for Eid Al Fitr 2026
According to the International Astronomy Centre, astronomical calculations suggest that sighting the Shawwal crescent on March 18 will be impossible.
This is because the moon will set before the sun and the conjunction will occur after sunset, making the crescent invisible.
Based on these calculations, the centre predicts that Eid Al Fitr will likely fall on March 20, 2026, meaning Ramadan would complete 30 days.
