Art for the Heart: Sharjah Biennial 14

The Sharjah Biennial 14 is where we suggest you head to this weekend.

Organised by Sharjah Art Foundation, it fosters international artistic exchange and dialogue through exhibitions and experimentation. In fact, if you havent still visited the place, you are almost a week late to have caught up. The Biennial commenced on March 7 and will stretch until June 10, 2019 (yes, you still have time, but why postpone good things?). SB14 will showcase three unique exhibitions, curated by renowned art aficionados, Zeo Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons.

Zeo Butt is the curator for Leaving the Echo Chamber Journey Beyond the Arrow which aims to offer a deeper knowledge and understanding of the movement of humanity and the tools that have helped or hindered its survival. It basically seeks to illuminate the necessity of exchange and diversity amongst people of the world and throughout human history. The exhibition Making New Time has been curated by Omar Kholeif and discusses how reality and history have been augmented by the realm of the virtual. Omars exhibition is a provocation and shows how material culture can be reimagined through the vantage point of artists whose political agency, activism and astute observations encourage us to extend the limits of our beliefs. The exhibition implores viewers to consider their complicity in an ephemeral world.

Claire Tancons opens a platform of migrant images and fugitive forms through her exhibition Look for Me All Around You. It seeks to bear witness to the jeopardy of the contemporary within the space between me and you. It points out that what is being looked for is not what is being looked at. The upcoming Friday and Saturday, a Music Weekend with Ma3azef will be held at Al Mureijah Square.

The timings are 2:30 pm on Friday and 11:00 pm on Saturday. Also, there will be a Ma3azef Symposium on Arabic Music at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts on Friday and at the Calligraphy Square, heritage Area on Saturday. Further, on Friday, there will be Re|sound III, a biennial event for musical experimentation in dialogue with the film medium.

It is set to take place in the Mirage City Cinema from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm. In addition, there are numerous programmes slated for the weekend including Structural Sculpture for Beginners, Childrens Open Day 4, and Muqataa among others.
