This comes after the announcement of the annual Car-Free Day, which was first introduced in 2010 in line with the emirates efforts towards a global sustainable city. This Sunday will see the 10th edition of it wherein senior UAE officials and other prominent personalities will show up in the metro. According to the Dubai Municipality, the Car-Free Day initiative is a major step towards raising Dubais profile among the worlds eco-friendly cities by finding all sustainable and effective solutions to meet various environmental challenges. The initiative, though demanding, has picked up greatly since its launch. Last year, the Car-Free day witnessed more than 60,000 enthusiast residents in Dubai, Al Ain, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah leave their vehicles and use public transport. Another interesting lot of residents took to walking as well as cycling instead of using their vehicles. The initiative by the Dubai Municipality has been widely lauded for its significance in todays world.
