Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center attracts over 650 participants for One Ocean Run
More than 650 participants took part in the second edition of One Ocean Run: Mission Dugong, organised by the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center to raise awareness of marine conservation and support research into seagrass habitats in the UAE.
The event brought together families, first-time runners and experienced athletes for an indoor run featuring 2.5km, 5km and 10km distances. Participants ran through the immersive realms of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, experiencing different habitats within the marine life theme park.
The initiative focused on the importance of protecting the UAE’s seagrass meadows, which provide essential food and habitat for dugongs and play a significant role in maintaining marine ecosystems.
Run supports seagrass research
AED 30 from every Mission Dugong ticket sold will go towards seagrass research led by the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center. The research aims to improve scientific understanding of these marine habitats and inform efforts to protect them over the long term.
The initiative forms part of wider conservation efforts supported by the Impact Fund by Miral, which focuses on generating social and environmental impact across Abu Dhabi.
Conservation awareness activities
The event also featured entertainment and activities for runners and their families, including a DJ, photo opportunities, prize giveaways and appearances by Sakina the Dugong and a seagrass-themed stilt walker.
Educational pop-ups highlighted the importance of dugong conservation and seagrass protection, helping participants understand how these ecosystems contribute to the health of the UAE’s marine environment.
Through One Ocean Run: Mission Dugong, the centre combined community participation with conservation education and fundraising to support research into habitats that are vital to marine life.
