UAE Leads Arab World in Creative Thinking and Financial Literacy: PISA 2022 Results
The UAE has emerged as a leader in the Arab world for creative thinking and financial literacy, according to the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 results announced at a forum hosted by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Held on June 27-28, the forum presented the PISA 2022 results for the GCC and MENA regions, revealing that the UAE not only topped the Arab world in financial literacy but also, along with Qatar, led in creative thinking. This achievement aligns with the UAE Centennial Plan 2071, which aims to develop a future-ready educational system.
The forum featured dialogue sessions on the future of education in the region, showcasing best practices and experiences in enhancing educational systems. Experts, researchers, and specialists presented research papers on various educational topics, emphasizing the significance of the PISA data in improving national educational systems.
PISA, conducted triennially and overseen by the OECD, benchmarks the performance of educational systems worldwide by testing students' skills and knowledge in mathematics, science, reading (in both Arabic and English), creative thinking, and financial literacy. The UAE Ministry of Education supervises the implementation of PISA tests in partnership with the OECD, using the data to identify areas for development and organize targeted training and guidance courses for students.
In creative thinking, the UAE focuses on enhancing students' cognitive skills and creative capabilities, while in financial literacy, the emphasis is on students' ability to manage financial resources effectively, ensuring their well-being and financial sustainability. By applying PISA study outcomes, the UAE evaluates and improves student performance in these critical areas, reinforcing its commitment to educational excellence and future preparedness.
