UAE Launches World’s First Commercial U6GHz Network, Paving Way For 10Gbps Connectivity
The UAE has unveiled the world’s first commercial upper 6GHz (U6GHz) network, marking a major milestone in next-generation telecommunications and reinforcing its global leadership in digital innovation.
Announced during the SAMENA Council Leaders’ Summit 2026, the initiative is led by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority and represents a significant step toward achieving 10Gbps connectivity and future 6G readiness.
The U6GHz spectrum (6425–7125 MHz), widely known as the “golden band,” provides 700MHz of continuous bandwidth, enabling high-capacity, low-latency connectivity suited for increasingly data-intensive and AI-driven applications.
Industry projections indicate that the technology can deliver download speeds of up to 10Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1Gbps under 5G-Advanced, while supporting reliable and balanced network performance.
The launch was backed by a broad ecosystem of global telecom and technology players, including Huawei, GSMA, Nokia, du, and e&, all of whom committed to accelerating commercial deployment and ecosystem development.
The UAE’s journey toward U6GHz commercialization began with spectrum allocation in 2024 by Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, followed by successful field trials in 2025 that achieved 10Gbps speeds. The 2026 launch marks the transition from testing to full-scale commercial rollout.
The new network is expected to play a key role in advancing smart cities, digital healthcare, industrial automation, and immersive technologies, while supporting the country’s broader digital economy ambitions.
Looking ahead, U6GHz is set to form a critical bridge between 5G-Advanced and 6G, with nationwide expansion expected by 2028. The milestone positions the UAE as a global reference point for advanced spectrum deployment, highlighting how innovation, regulation, and collaboration can shape the future of connectivity.
