UAE Federal Youth Authority Launches Leadership and International Representation Programme for Young Emiratis
The UAE Federal Youth Authority (FYA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), has launched the first edition of the Leadership and International Representation Programme to prepare young Emiratis for roles at regional and international forums.
The initiative aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to represent the UAE at United Nations committees, multilateral working groups and official delegations. It also seeks to encourage young Emiratis to contribute to addressing global challenges and participate in international decision-making.
The programme focuses on developing capabilities in diplomacy, negotiation, coalition-building and cross-cultural communication. Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of diplomatic work and learn how to engage with issues of national priority while supporting the UAE’s foreign policy objectives.
UAE Invests in the Next Generation of Diplomatic Talent
His Excellency Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the programme reflects the UAE’s commitment to developing national talent and giving young people an active role in shaping the future of diplomacy.
He noted that the initiative supports the vision of the UAE leadership, which places youth development among national priorities. It also aims to prepare a new generation capable of communicating the country's vision and aspirations internationally while promoting dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding.
Alshamsi explained that the programme combines academic learning with practical training. Participants will study the fundamentals of international relations and the operations of multilateral organisations while developing their negotiation skills and ability to prepare and draft official positions.
The training will include direct engagement with experienced diplomats and experts, alongside practical simulations of negotiation and decision-making sessions.
The programme also aims to prepare young professionals to understand developments in the international landscape and their implications for areas such as the economy, sustainability, technology and humanitarian action.
Programme Supports UAE's International Representation Goals
His Excellency Khalid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Federal Youth Authority, said representing the UAE internationally requires qualified national talent with strong knowledge, advanced diplomatic skills and the ability to engage across cultures.
He highlighted the importance of preparing young Emiratis to build on the country's international standing through dialogue, cooperation and strategic partnerships.
Al Nuaimi said the Leadership and International Representation Programme supports the objectives of the National Youth Agenda 2031 by developing young people's capabilities, expanding their international engagement and strengthening their national identity.
He added that the initiative goes beyond capacity-building by providing practical experience in international professional environments. Opportunities to develop international networks and engage with different cultures will help participants address issues of national importance and represent the UAE with confidence.
Vocational Training in Embassies Offers Practical Experience
A key component of the programme is the Vocational Training in Embassies track, which gives participants first-hand exposure to diplomatic environments.
The track introduces young Emiratis to the responsibilities and functions of UAE diplomatic missions, including the coordination and communication processes that support international relations.
It is open to UAE nationals aged 18 to 24 who are in their final year of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated with honours from a university recognised in the UAE.
By connecting academic knowledge with practical experience, the track aims to help participants develop the professional capabilities required for careers in diplomacy and international representation.
Initiative Aligns with National Youth Agenda 2031
The programme supports the National Youth Agenda 2031, which aims to increase the participation and representation of Emirati youth in international organisations and forums.
It focuses on developing qualified national talent with the knowledge and skills to engage in international affairs, represent the UAE and contribute to addressing shared global challenges.
The initiative also aligns with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' strategic objectives of advancing proactive diplomacy and strengthening bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
Through these efforts, the programme is intended to support the UAE's foreign policy priorities and contribute to peace, stability and sustainable development at regional and international levels.
