Qatar Airways hosts Arab Air Carriers’ Organisation’s 59th annual general meeting in Doha
Qatar Airways is hosting the 59th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Arab Air Carriers’ Organisation (AACO) in Doha, bringing together more than 200 senior aviation executives and industry representatives to discuss regional cooperation and challenges facing the sector.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, the meeting opened on November 2 at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel. The three-day event runs until November 4.
The opening session featured addresses by Hamad Al-Khater, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer and AGM Chairman, and Abdul Wahab Teffaha, AACO Secretary General.
Participants include chief executives of AACO member airlines, partner carriers and representatives of major organisations across the aviation industry.
Regional cooperation and aviation challenges
Al-Khater said Arab airlines play an important role in connecting people, businesses and economies across six continents. He highlighted the impact of geopolitical developments on global connectivity and said cooperation among regional carriers was essential to strengthening the industry's resilience.
He added that Qatar Airways was pleased to host the gathering and support efforts to develop a shared vision for the future of Arab aviation.
Teffaha thanked Qatar for its patronage and Qatar Airways for hosting the meeting. He said the aviation industry continued to face challenges, including geopolitical uncertainty, operational pressures and the need for greater environmental sustainability.
He described the AGM as a platform for airlines to exchange views, strengthen partnerships and identify practical solutions to shared challenges.
Industry outlook and Arab Aviation Summit
The working sessions on November 3 are scheduled to begin with the AACO Secretary General's State of the Industry report, covering recent developments, challenges and opportunities across aviation.
The programme will also include an address by Khalid Cherkaoui, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO), and a presentation by Bloomberg on the global economic outlook and its implications for the aviation sector.
The Arab Aviation Summit will feature a high-level panel discussion involving airline chief executives and aviation leaders. Discussions will focus on major issues shaping the industry's future.
A closed-door session for AACO members will follow, allowing participants to address internal and administrative matters and strategic challenges affecting member airlines.
As host of the AGM, Qatar Airways said it continues to support collaboration and the exchange of expertise across the regional aviation sector. The airline connects Doha to more than 170 destinations through its hub, Hamad International Airport.
