Saudi Film Commission Concludes Second International Film Criticism Conference in Riyadh
The Saudi Film Commission concluded the second edition of the International Film Criticism Conference on November 10, following a five-day event in Riyadh that drew a strong turnout of culture enthusiasts, filmmakers, and industry professionals. Held under the theme "Sound in Cinema," the conference delved into the powerful impact of sound design on film and its evolving role in enhancing cinematic experiences.
The conference featured over 40 speakers from 24 countries, including critics, filmmakers, and experts, who highlighted the importance of sound in storytelling through discussions on original soundtracks, sound effects, and natural soundscapes. Six workshops were offered for professionals, along with four specialized workshops aimed at cultivating critical thinking and film appreciation skills among children. Attendees also participated in 13 panel discussions and enjoyed screenings of eight international films, each followed by critical discussions.
As part of the Saudi Film Commission's strategic initiative to support and grow the film industry, this conference underscored the role of cinema as a cultural, social, and economic catalyst. The Commission is dedicated to advancing national cinema by fostering local talent and building a cinematic culture through education and critique.
This event capped off a series of film criticism forums held across the Kingdom, with earlier sessions in Hail and Al-Ahsa. The Riyadh conference served as the grand finale, attracting attendees from both Saudi Arabia and the global film community, marking a milestone in the Commission’s mission to elevate Saudi Arabia's presence in global cinema.
