RTA Opens Registration for the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai opens up today, May 1st, 2018, the registration for the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport with the website www.sdchallenge.com. HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Supervisors of the RTA, had previously revealed the initiative in cooperation with Khalifa University and NewCities International Organisation.
Adel Shakeri, Director of Transportation Systems cum Head of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport Committee, said, "Registration for the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transportation opens up today, May 1st 2018. Finalists will certainly be revealed in October 2018, and champions will be introduced in October 2019. The total cash prize of the Challenge exceeds USD $5 million.
Launching the Challenge is part of RTA's efforts to support the leading role of Dubai in Self-Driving Transport and its commitment to understand the Government's vision for transforming 25% of total mobility trips in Dubai into driverless trips by 2030. This effort will certainly bring together noticeable professionals, professionals, policymakers, innovation chauffeurs, researchers and academicians. It will try ahead up with the very best ideas & visions that serve the Dubai Government's drive, accomplishes RTA's first calculated objective (Smart Dubai), and know Dubai's campaign (Smart Dubai)," he continued.
"The Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport targets big companies, start-ups, local and international colleges. Regarding USD $3 million has been allocated to huge companies, USD $1.5 m for start-ups, and USD $600,000 for colleges and scholastic institutions (USD $300,000 each for local universities, and international colleges).
