Responsible Fishing: Pelagic Shipowners and Industry of Dakhla Hold General Assembly and Adopt Ethical Charter

The Moroccan Confederation of Industrial Pelagic Fishing Shipowners (COMAIP) convened for an extraordinary general assembly in Rabat on September 6, 2024, to discuss strategic directions and operational decisions for the industry. The assembly culminated in the adoption of an ethical charter, which emphasizes resource preservation, sustainability, social impact, and environmental commitment. This move is aligned with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Atlantic Africa Axis initiative.

During the meeting, the COMAIP Board of Directors unanimously agreed to the ethical charter, which aims to modernize and professionalize the sector while promoting best practices in the fishing industry. To support this initiative, the Board also decided to commission an independent expert to prepare a report on the economic and social impacts of the pelagic fishing industry at regional, national, and continental levels.

Additionally, the Board established three new committees to support the implementation of the charter:

  1. Ethics Committee: Monitors and ensures the implementation of the ethical charter.
  2. Strategic Committee: Oversees scientific, technical, economic, social, and environmental matters.
  3. External Relations Committee: Acts as the liaison between COMAIP, partners, and institutions.

Mr. Mohamed Lamine Hormatollah, President of COMAIP, emphasized the alignment of the organization’s actions with the royal vision, stating: "We are laying the foundations for a new ambition, aligned with the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. All our members are committed to supporting this vision in economic, social, and environmental terms."
