Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs Hosts Panel on Emirati Women's Political Participation

In a continuous effort to promote political awareness and participation among Emirati women, the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA), in collaboration with the General Women’s Union, is organizing a panel discussion titled ‘Political Empowerment Dialogue.’ The event, aimed at fostering a culture of political participation among Emirati citizens, particularly women, will take place at the headquarters of the General Women’s Union.

This initiative aligns with the MFNCA's strategic goal of enhancing political participation and building on the achievements of the UAE’s parliamentary journey over the past five decades. The panel discussion will feature members of the Federal National Council (FNC), including H.E. Hashima Yasser Al-Afari and H.E. Aisha Khamis Al Dhanhani, who will share insights from their experiences in the fifth session of the 2023 FNC elections and highlight the accomplishments of Emirati women in parliamentary roles.

Joining the panel is Prof. Ahlam Al-Lamki, Head of the Research and Development Department at the General Women’s Union, who will discuss the importance of women's political engagement and the Union’s role in promoting active participation among Emirati women.

H.E. Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the MFNCA, stated, “This panel discussion exemplifies our strategic partnership with the General Women’s Union and our commitment to empowering Emirati women. It aligns with the leadership’s directives to ensure that women have the resources needed to play crucial roles in achieving the nation’s strategic objectives.”

H.E. Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, emphasized the success of Emirati women in the 2023 FNC elections, reflecting the UAE’s vision for women's empowerment. She credited the UAE’s leadership for fostering women's contributions to nation-building and praised the Ministry's efforts in promoting women's political qualifications through strategic partnerships.

Al Suwaidi highlighted the significant role of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in advancing women’s political participation, noting initiatives such as the program to strengthen Arab women parliamentarians in collaboration with UN-Women in 2004. These efforts have been pivotal in preparing society for women's new roles, leading to their success in the first elections in 2006 and continued support for the FNC.

The ‘Political Empowerment Dialogue’ is part of the Ministry’s strategy to raise awareness about parliamentary life and political engagement, with a particular focus on women. It aims to enhance political consciousness and build on the UAE’s parliamentary achievements, supporting national visions and reinforcing the country’s leadership across various sectors.
