Ministry of Education and Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge Sign MoU to Regulate Private Education Sector

In a significant move to enhance the educational landscape, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge (RAK DOK) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education (MoE). The agreement aims to gradually transfer regulatory powers over the private education sector in the emirate from the Ministry to RAK DOK by the end of 2024. This initiative aligns with Ras Al Khaimah's Vision 2030 and national goals to advance the educational system in line with global trends.

The MoU was signed by Her Excellency Dr. Rabaa Al Sumaiti, Undersecretary for the Performance Improvement Sector at the MoE, and His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Al Naqbi, RAK DOK Board Member. RAK DOK will focus on improving educational services and meeting international standards, in accordance with the future development goals of Ras Al Khaimah.

Dr. Rabaa Al Sumaiti emphasized the pivotal role of RAK DOK in enhancing the emirate's educational system, fostering competitiveness, and efficiency. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting RAK DOK in its efforts to enhance private education, align with students’ aspirations, and attract top international educational institutions.

"This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with RAK DOK, aimed at supporting their team in fulfilling their responsibilities and achieving their strategic objectives efficiently. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation to enhance every aspect of the education system," stated Dr. Al Sumaiti.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Naqbi expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the unique opportunity to elevate educational standards to global levels and address the diverse needs of all students, including those of determination. He emphasized RAK DOK's essential role in overseeing, supporting, and advancing educational excellence in Ras Al Khaimah.

RAK DOK will manage the private education sector through its four directorates: Licensing and Compliance, Operations and Engagement, Quality and Assessment, and Strategy & Policy. These integrated departments aim to build a comprehensive educational system for all levels of education.

Ras Al Khaimah, with its growing population of nationals and expatriates, hosts 107 schools offering various curricula to cater to diverse needs. The emirate's progressive educational landscape was recognized in 2022 when it was added to UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities.
