MBRF opens Nobel Museum exhibitionin Dubai under the themeNobel Prize: Ideas Changing the World
Dubai, March 29, 2015:Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF)has announced the opening of Nobel Museums travelling exhibitionin Dubai under the theme, The Nobel Prize: Ideas Changing the World,in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of MBRF. This is the first time the exhibition is being hosted in a new concept and theme in an Arabic city.
At a press conference to announce the opening, MBRF unveiled a number of events associated with the exhibition, including four special workshops led by experts from the Nobel Museum. A key attraction will be a workshop on micro-finance addressed by Nobel laureate Muhammed Yunus.Yunus, who established a micro-credit bank offering small loans for the poor, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 in recognition of his efforts to create economic and social development from below. His efforts have contributed to economic and social development of millions of people, not only in his own country Bangladesh, but also in several other nations.
The exhibition,organised at the Burj Khalifa annex in Downtown Dubai,will run for a month, starting from March 30, 2015, and will beopen from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm except on Fridays. Entry is free of charge.MBRF expects that the event will attract a large number of visitors, especially intellectuals and students from the region.
MBRF has organised the exhibitionto establish the values of creativity and innovation in the region by highlighting the prestigious position of Nobel Prize inhonouringoutstanding discoveries that have contributed to the development and progress of mankind. It will also provide an opportunity for the public to see for themselves the most important inventions as well as awards obtained by Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prize.
In his address during the press conference, H.E. Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said the exhibition is being organised as part of the Foundations efforts to empower future generations with sustainable solutions that address the challenges in the knowledge and research domains in the Arab world.
H.E. Huwairebsaid: The Nobel Museum exhibition will provide a unique platform in the Arab world to put the spotlight on innovation and discoveries. It will draw attention to human achievements that have transformed the world and contributed to improving the lives of people.We believe that the Nobel Museum exhibits will motivate our young people to innovate and look around them as creative explorers, and divert their energies to find better solutions and ideas.

H.E. Huwaireb added: This event will inspire our young people to look up to the great personalities and innovative minds showcased at the exhibition as role models, just as we have been inspired by Arab novelist Naguib Mahfouz, scientist Ahmed Zewail, Lebanese doctor Peter Medawar, and other Arab Nobel Prize winners.
As part of the workshops at the exhibition, Tobias Degsell, Curator at the Nobel Museum, will speak on Spark of Creativity on Sunday 5th of April. Tobias Degsell developed in 2010 a concept named the Spark of Creativity for business professionals. Since then he has been travelling the world preaching the power of creativity.
A workshop on Impact of The Nobel Prizes by Dr. Gustav Kllstrand, Senior Curator at the Nobel Museum, will be organised on Sunday 12th of April. Kllstrand is currently focused on his studies of the Nobel Prize by organising the Nobel Foundations archives.
The workshop on Micro-finance, addressed by Muhammad Yunus, will take place on Sunday 19th of April. Dr. Katarina Nordqvist, Head of Research Department of the Nobel Museum, will speak on Medical Advances from Nobel Discoveries on Sunday 26th of April. Dr. Nordqvist has a long experience of research and innovation from Karolinska Institutet, AstraZeneca, and Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA).
Dr. Olof Ameline, Director of Nobel Museum, said the hosting of the Nobel Museum exhibition in Dubai will enable the public in the region to get acquainted with the concept of the Nobel Prize and the most prominent innovators who have contributed to humanitys welfare and development. He said the museum will inspire many towards creativity and innovation by highlighting how Nobel achievers have employed innovation and knowledge to touchthe daily lives of millions. He stressed that Dubai has always been afront-runnerin attracting the world's most important events,and istherefore an exceptional host for the Nobel Museum exhibition in the Middle East.
The Nobel Museum exhibition includes five pavilions dealing with five different themes. The first pavilion offers an introduction to the Nobel Prize and its specific areas. The second pavilion, called Alfred Nobel, presents Alfred Nobel, his inventions and industrial operations, and the background to his will. The third, The Nobel Prize Over the Decades, gives an overview of the history of the Nobel Prize, and introduces the Nobel laureates and their work. The fourth pavilion, The Nobel Prize in Our Daily Lives, demonstrates the link between Nobel Prize-awarded efforts and their phenomena in everyday life, while the fifth, The Nobel Prize and the Future, addresses the question of how Nobel Prize-awarded discoveries may affect the future and what future Nobel Prizes may involve.
