MBRF aims for distinct participation at Frankfurt Book Fair 2014
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, September24, 2014:In the framework of its efforts to strengthen bonds of cooperation and partnership with global leaders in the areas of development and dissemination of knowledge, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF)has announced its participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair which will be held from 8 to 12 October 2014. The exhibition is the largest event of its kind in the world that has been contributing towards building bridges of dialogue and knowledge between nations and cultures around the world.
Our participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year is another step towards translating the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to develop a knowledge-based society. It is also in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of MBRF, to develop ways of transferring knowledge and promoting intellectual creativity at the local level, said His Excellency Jamal Bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF. Through our participation at the book fair, we aim to identify international best practices and exchange knowledge with key players in the knowledge sector in order to encourage innovative thinking in the Arab world, H.E. Jamal Bin Huwaireb said.
We will expand our participation in this huge international event by organizing a series of seminars and workshops. It will also be an opportunity to meet large number of writers and thinkers as well as shed light on the programs and initiatives launched by MBRF. We will explore cooperation and partnerships with thought leaders in the literary world in order to take the Arab talent to the international level, H.E. Jamal Bin Huwaireb added.
During its participation at the fair, MBRF will launch Qindeel Printing and Publishing Services, one of its investment projects to create a world leader in the provision of printing and publishing services. With a focus on the Arab world, Qindeel publishes books, magazines and journals in Arabic and other languages which encourage learning, knowledge and development. Qindeel also offers a wide range of services to the print and publishing sectors.
Having obtained copyrights to translate and publish more than 1,000 books that have influenced the Arab libraries, MBRF is committed to disseminating knowledge throughout the region by fostering ideas and innovation and funding research projects, activities and initiatives. MBRF launched A Book in Minutes monthly initiative to share knowledge with the widest possible audience by publishing translated summaries of international best sellers by prominent authors. It also launched My Family Reads initiative to encourage learning and reading and enhance knowledge level in the local community by translating into Arabic various book collections from across the world, including classics and best-selling titles, and distributing them among families.
In addition, MBRF provides "The Knowledge Page" initiative, a daily page from Sunday to Thursday in partnership with Al Bayan newspaper, to showcase articles and opinion pieces on culture as well as best practices in science by some of the most famous Arab and international writers
MBRF also launched Wamadat, amonthly knowledge magazine,which carries contributions by professional authors and researchers. The magazine also publishes scientific, economic, and social research from a development angle, and features outstanding youth leadership case studies. As part of its efforts to reinforce the position of Arabic language, MBRF introduced Bil-Arabi initiative on the International Day for the Arabic Language, observed annually by the United Nations on 18 December. Aiming to enhance the image of Arabic language and promote it as an international language connecting people, the initiative encourages people to post and share updates on social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram solely in Arabic for the entire day.
