Kuwait Introduces New 100-Point Driving Test System with 75% Passing Score
In a significant move to enhance driving standards, Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has rolled out a new driving test system across all six governorates, setting a passing score of 75% in a 100-point evaluation. The initiative, spearheaded by the Traffic Education Department, aims to ensure that all driving license applicants demonstrate a higher level of competency before taking to the roads.
The newly implemented test assesses a range of essential driving skills, including seatbelt usage, attentiveness while driving, parallel parking, obeying traffic signals, making tight turns, and using a manual transmission. The test is divided into six stages, with each component contributing to the overall score. While most skills are worth 10 points each, critical tasks such as stopping at red lights and making tight turns carry more weight, with each worth 30 points.
Applicants are required to achieve a score of at least 75 out of 100 to pass. This new system replaces the previous pass/fail method, where examiners recorded results without detailed scoring. Now, examiners will complete a comprehensive evaluation form for each applicant, which will then be reviewed and verified by both the practical test officer and the head of the testing department.
According to sources at Q8-Press, Major General Yousef Al-Khuda, the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs, has approved this specialized test format. The new system applies to all types of driving licenses, including private, public, construction, and motorcycle licenses.
The introduction of this detailed and rigorous testing process underscores Kuwait’s commitment to improving road safety and ensuring that all drivers are well-prepared to handle the demands of the road.
