Khorfakkan Hospital Achieves "Baby-Friendly Hospital" Accreditation for the Third Time from UNICEF and WHO

Khorfakkan Hospital, under the Emirates Health Services (EHS), has once again been honored with the prestigious "Baby-Friendly Hospital" accreditation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This marks the third consecutive time the hospital has received this recognition, underscoring its unwavering commitment to providing top-tier healthcare services to mothers and children.

The reaccreditation follows a rigorous three-day evaluation by WHO and UNICEF, highlighting Khorfakkan Hospital's exceptional adherence to international healthcare standards. The hospital's successful implementation of a comprehensive breastfeeding policy, alongside its adherence to the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, played a crucial role in securing this esteemed designation.

Dr. Abdalla Albloushi, Director of Khorfakkan Hospital, expressed pride in this achievement, noting its significance not only for the hospital but for all Emirates Health Services facilities. "This accreditation reflects our steadfast commitment to delivering premier healthcare for all community members, particularly mothers and children," Dr. Albloushi stated. He emphasized the hospital's continuous efforts to provide a nurturing environment that aligns with the "We the UAE 2031" vision and the broader goals of the UAE Centennial 2071.

Khorfakkan Hospital has consistently met the benchmarks set by the global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, focusing on enhancing access to breastfeeding support services. This includes the thorough training of healthcare professionals, educating mothers on the importance of breastfeeding before and after childbirth, offering immediate postnatal care, and promoting skin-to-skin contact between mothers and newborns. These initiatives are vital in improving communication and fostering effective feeding practices, which are essential for the health and well-being of both mother and child.

The global "Baby-Friendly Hospital" Initiative aims to protect and promote the health of infants and young children by focusing on the needs of both mothers and newborns, facilitating successful breastfeeding practices. It encourages and enhances optimal breastfeeding approaches, contributing to the overall health of both the child and the mother.
