Huawei Showcases Wearable Health Technology and Smartphone Innovations at Dubai Tech Event

Huawei brought together healthcare researchers, technology experts and media representatives at its MEA Tech Innovation Talks event in Dubai to explore developments in wearable health technology, cardiovascular monitoring and smartphone innovation.

Held at the Grand Plaza Mövenpick Hotel alongside the ISH-ECS 2026 conference, the event followed the unveiling of the HUAWEI WATCH D3, a smartwatch featuring blood pressure monitoring technology. Discussions focused on how wearable devices could support blood pressure management, cardiovascular health research and the assessment of diabetes risk factors.

HUAWEI WATCH D3 Highlights Wearable Blood Pressure Monitoring

The HUAWEI WATCH D3 was showcased at the event as part of the company's efforts to make blood pressure monitoring more accessible in everyday life.

The ISH-ECS 2026 conference, held in Dubai from October 22 to 25, brings together international institutions and specialists to discuss developments in hypertension prevention and management. Huawei participated by demonstrating the smartwatch and presenting research on wearable blood pressure monitoring.

Huawei, a member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), also highlighted research findings from international experts using wearable blood pressure monitors from its WATCH D series. The presentations examined the potential role of wearable technology in supporting blood pressure monitoring and management.

Professor Jijuang Wang, a professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Shanghai Hypertension Institute, said wearable monitoring could help integrate blood pressure management into everyday routines.

“Innovations such as mobile blood pressure monitoring with minimal inconvenience, and reminders to monitor environmental factors provided by the HUAWEI WATCH D3, may contribute to shaping a new trend towards automating blood pressure management in the future and seamlessly integrating it into daily life through wearable devices,” Wang said.

Professor George Stergio, President of the International Society of Hypertension, described the HUAWEI WATCH D3 as a wearable device designed to provide insights into blood pressure levels and changes over time.

He also noted that the European Society of Hypertension and the International Society of Hypertension encourage the clinical use of approved wrist-worn blood pressure monitors, while highlighting the need for further research into their application in clinical practice.

Experts Discuss Cardiovascular Health and Preventive Care

The conference explored how wearable devices could contribute to preventive and personalised healthcare by making health measurements more convenient and potentially improving access to ongoing monitoring.

Professor Datin Yok-Chin Chia, Professor and Senior Consultant at Sunway University Malaysia, highlighted the importance of reducing the inconvenience associated with blood pressure measurements.

She said that making the process easier and reducing the number of measurements required could help make comprehensive mobile blood pressure monitoring more convenient and accessible for patients.

The discussions also covered research into coronary heart disease risk and the potential use of wearable technology in assessing diabetes risk.

Professor Mariam Al Saeed of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences discussed a clinical research initiative involving the Dubai Health Authority and Huawei.

“The Dubai Health Authority is collaborating with Huawei on a clinical research initiative to evaluate wearable and non-invasive technologies, with the aim of early detection of diabetes risks, leveraging real-world health data to support the development of personalized prevention strategies, promote proactive healthcare, and improve long-term health outcomes across different population groups,” Al Saeed said.

The initiative focuses on evaluating technologies that could support early identification of diabetes risks and inform personalised prevention strategies using real-world health data.

Huawei Highlights Research Investment and Global Health Collaboration

Huawei said its wearable health innovations are supported by sustained investment in research and development. In 2025, the company invested US$28.62 billion in research and development, equivalent to 21.8% of its annual revenue.

The company has also established the Wearable Blood Pressure Monitoring Technology Innovation Fund in collaboration with the International Society of Hypertension to support research in this field.

During the Dubai event, attendees heard about work conducted by Huawei Health's global research laboratories and its international health research collaborations. They also had the opportunity to experience the HUAWEI WATCH D3's blood pressure monitoring capabilities in different scenarios.

Foldable Smartphones, Camera Technology and Tau Law

Alongside its health technology demonstrations, Huawei presented its latest smartphone innovations, highlighting developments in foldable devices and smartphone camera technology.

Huawei Chief Technology Officer Edwin Yu also discussed the company's Tau Law technology, which proposes an approach to microprocessor design that focuses on reducing signal latency rather than relying primarily on transistor miniaturisation.

According to Huawei, techniques such as LogicFolding could increase transistor density and improve system performance. The company presented the technology as part of its wider work in semiconductor development and chip design.

The event brought together Huawei's work in consumer technology, wearable health monitoring and semiconductor innovation, with discussions highlighting the potential applications of connected devices in healthcare and everyday life.
