FTA Urges July Licence Holders to Register for Corporate Tax by End of September
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has issued an urgent reminder to Resident Juridical Persons with licences issued in July, regardless of the year, to complete their Corporate Tax registration by 30 September 2024. Failure to meet this deadline could result in Administrative Penalties.
The FTA highlighted the importance of adhering to the timelines specified in FTA Decision No. 3 of 2024, which outlines the registration deadlines under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 on the Taxation of Corporations and Businesses. The law, which became effective on 1 March 2024, requires all relevant entities to register for Corporate Tax according to their specified deadlines.
The Authority emphasized that Cabinet Decision No. 75 of 2023 outlines penalties for entities failing to register within the allotted timeframes. The FTA further clarified that this requirement applies to both Juridical and Natural Persons, whether Resident or Non-Resident. Specifically, Juridical Persons incorporated or established before 1 March 2024 must register based on the issuance month of their licence, regardless of the year.
For those holding multiple licences as of 1 March 2024, the deadline corresponds to the earliest issued licence. Even if a licence has expired, the registration deadline is determined by the issuance month.
The FTA has made Corporate Tax registration available via the EmaraTax digital platform, which is accessible 24/7. The streamlined registration process, taking approximately 30 minutes, includes four main steps. Those already registered for VAT or Excise Tax can use the same platform to complete their Corporate Tax registration and receive their Tax Registration Number upon approval.
The FTA also encouraged those who have yet to register to create a new username on the EmaraTax platform using their email address and mobile number. After creating an account, users can follow simple steps to complete the registration. Alternatively, registration can be done through authorised Tax Agents listed on the FTA’s website or at government service centres across the UAE.
The FTA concluded by urging all entities subject to Corporate Tax to review the Corporate Tax Law and related guidelines available on the FTA website at tax.gov.ae.
