EtihadWE and Khalifa University Partner to Advance Water Treatment Innovation
Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khalifa University’s Center for Membranes & Advanced Water Technology (CMAT) to explore innovative methods for enhancing water treatment and desalination in the UAE. This collaboration aims to improve water quality and resource management through advanced membrane technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning models.
The partnership will pilot new desalination technologies and use AI-driven models to optimize the efficiency and sustainability of desalination operations. The agreement also promotes knowledge exchange, internships, and educational initiatives, fostering future talent in the water treatment sector.
Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the company’s goal of boosting operational efficiency and supporting water security in the UAE. Khalifa University President H.E. Prof. Ebrahim Al Hajri highlighted that this partnership will advance technological innovations in water treatment, crucial for achieving sustainable water management.
EtihadWE's Naqa’a desalination plant, which utilizes advanced Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology, already plays a significant role in the UAE's Water Security Strategy 2036, producing water for two million residents annually. Khalifa University, through CMAT, is at the forefront of groundbreaking water solutions, including solar-powered desalination and eco-friendly nanocomposite membranes, solidifying the UAE's leadership in water treatment innovation.
