Empower Launches Campaign to Reduce Cooling Energy Consumption in Dubai

As temperatures soar during the summer months, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world's largest district cooling services provider, has launched a campaign to encourage its customers to use district cooling more efficiently. This initiative aims to reduce both energy consumption and cooling bills for consumers.

Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, emphasized the importance of conserving energy, especially during the hot summer months. "Consumers tend to be careless about consumption rationalization and may not realize the importance of conserving energy. Empower launched its Summer Campaign to educate customers about the value and importance of energy, the high cost of producing and delivering it affordably, and how conservation ensures a comfortable life for everyone," said bin Shafar.

The Summer Campaign

The campaign includes messages to educate consumers on best practices and ways to rationalize the consumption of district cooling energy. These practices will benefit customers by reducing their bills and ensuring their comfort and happiness through efficient and sustainable cooling services. Bin Shafar expressed confidence in customers' awareness and their ability to apply cooling energy conservation practices for the benefit of the community, economy, development, and environment.

Eight Tips for Efficient Cooling

As part of its Summer Campaign, Empower has provided eight valuable tips to help customers achieve the desired goals:

  1. Set the AC thermostat to 24°C and Auto mode.
  2. Regularly monitor the AC thermostat.
  3. Keep the air conditioner filter clean.
  4. Close window curtains.
  5. Seal cracks in windows and doors.
  6. Tint glass doors and windows.
  7. Reduce heat from various sources.
  8. Carry out regular house maintenance.

Promoting Positive Consumer Behavior

“With this campaign, Empower is fulfilling its role and social responsibilities in helping customers not to be passive consumers but rather to be positive consumers with a high sense of responsibility towards themselves and their community," said bin Shafar. The campaign aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to reduce electricity and water consumption rates and make Dubai a global hub for a green economy with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.

Collaboration for Success

Bin Shafar stressed that the campaign aims to make customers partners in the success of national efforts to conserve resources. Rationalizing district cooling energy consumption helps Empower systems reduce heavy loads on the national grid and maximizes the benefits of Empower’s district cooling systems, which save up to 50% electricity over conventional cooling solutions. He highlighted that the responsibility of energy conservation lies with everyone, and collaboration between government and private sectors is crucial to achieving this goal.
