Emirates Environmental Group Hosts a Unique Paper Recycling Campaign On Earth Hour 2018
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), an active Associate Member of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), organised the Earth Hour 2018 celebration on the 24th of March at the Al Marasi Promenade, Business Bay, Dubai. The event was held for the tenth successive year in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. The ten-year anniversary of the DEWA arranged event was specifically purposeful throughout the Year of Zayed, as the events of the global event in the UAE aligned with the founding father's vision of sustainability for the generations to come.
In its endeavor to support and forge lasting partnerships with like-minded entities, EEG has been actively taking part in Planet Hr given that its creation along with DEWA. This year, EEG formed a delegation, including 350 of its student, business and scholastic participants and established a stand at the event. As part of its goal to raise understanding on the value of recycling, EEG arranged a unique campaign, named "Paper Stroll", wherein its members brought waste to the Earth Hour occasion and handed it over to EEG for recycling. Via this unique project, EEG gathered 2,310 kg of paper, which conserved 39 trees, 7 cubic meters of garbage dump room and 17MW of power and saw the mitigation of 9 statistics tonnes of co2 discharges, greatly adding to Dubai's total Earth Hr achievements.
Mrs. Habiba Al Mar'ashi, EEG Chairperson, commented on the success, emphasising that "The effective Paper Stroll project linked the value of environment modification with that said of recycling and started a fun hands-on action programme for EEG participants.
