Economic Research Forum Explores Impact of Industry 4.0 and AI on GCC Cities
The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) launched the Economic Research Forum today, focusing on the transformative potential of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The two-day event, held in Dubai's City Walk, brings together global experts and decision-makers to discuss the integration of Industry 4.0 concepts in smart industries, cities, and the advanced labour market.
The forum's opening session featured key figures, including Dr. Ibrahim Elbadawi, Managing Director of the Economic Research Forum; His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of MBRSG; and Dr. Abdallah Al Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Arab States. Discussions centred on how technological advancements can shape the future of the GCC’s economy.
Dr. Elbadawi emphasized the forum’s role in guiding policy discussions on the transformative potential of Industry 4.0 technologies, noting that the breakthroughs could drive regional growth. H.E. Dr. Al Marri highlighted the UAE’s Fourth Industrial Revolution Strategy, which positions the nation as a global hub for these technologies, with the goal of enhancing economic sustainability and societal well-being.
The first session delved into AI's impact on the energy and tourism sectors, where experts discussed how technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality (VR), and digital twins are reshaping efficiency and visitor experiences. The day also featured discussions on entrepreneurship, with speakers examining how advanced technologies open new opportunities for innovation across the GCC.
A notable highlight was a session on the role of smart cities in promoting economic growth and improving the quality of life in the region. Experts debated the economic and social benefits of adopting smart city solutions, emphasizing their potential to drive sustainable development.
