e& UAE deploys Ciena-powered DWDM network to boost high-speed connectivity

e& UAE has announced the deployment of a next-generation Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network powered by Ciena's optical and software solutions, strengthening its telecommunications infrastructure to support growing demand for cloud services, data centres and advanced digital applications.

The new high-capacity network is among the most advanced designed by e& UAE and is intended to accommodate rapidly increasing bandwidth requirements while providing greater scalability, intelligent automation and ultra-high-capacity connectivity.

The deployment is expected to support hyperscalers, neoscalers and data centre operators by enabling faster, data-intensive connectivity across the UAE and the wider Middle East region.

Marwan Bin Shakar, Chief Technology Officer at e& UAE, said the network marks a significant advancement in the company's infrastructure.

"This new DWDM network represents a significant step forward in the capacity and scalability of our infrastructure, helping the region respond to rapidly growing bandwidth demand. We selected Ciena because of its proven leadership in high-capacity optical networking and its ability to deliver scalable, resilient and low-latency infrastructure. With Ciena's technology, we can provide customers across the Middle East with connectivity designed to support their evolving needs."

Brodie Gage, Senior Vice President and Chief Product and Technology Officer at Ciena, said the region is experiencing a sharp increase in bandwidth demand driven by digital transformation.

"The Middle East is experiencing a surge in bandwidth demand, driven by the rapid expansion of various advanced digital applications. It’s clear that e& UAE's next-generation network will transform the region and help position the company to stay ahead of today's and tomorrow's evolving digital requirements. By leveraging Ciena's leading technology, e& is future-proofing its network to support the continued digital evolution and growing capacity demands."

As part of the deployment, e& UAE is implementing Ciena's Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) and Waveserver platform equipped with WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) 1.6Tb/s coherent optics. The company is also deploying Navigator Network Control Suite, which provides end-to-end network visibility, automation and intelligent network management.

The latest deployment builds on the long-standing collaboration between e& UAE and Ciena to expand next-generation digital infrastructure and enhance connectivity capabilities across the UAE.
