Dubai: The New Global Leader in Business Events

Dubai has emerged as a premier destination for business events, establishing itself as a global leader in hosting and facilitating strategic gatherings that contribute to both economic growth and diversification. The city has achieved recognition not only as a top tourist destination but also as a thriving hub for business events, marking a significant milestone in its broader vision for the future.

In 2023, large-scale events hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) played a crucial role in the city’s economy. The events supported 69,281 jobs and generated a collective disposable household income of Dh3.4 billion. These events have contributed immensely to Dubai’s position as one of the world’s top three cities for business and leisure, thanks to its state-of-the-art facilities and world-class hospitality.

The global business events industry contributes over $1.6 trillion to global GDP annually, underscoring its economic significance. Dubai, guided by the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has strategically positioned itself as the leading global business events hub. Its collaboration with organisations such as the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), dating back to 2003, has been pivotal in promoting sustainable development in the industry and aligning with global sustainability goals.

Dubai’s appeal as a destination for business events is multifaceted. The city’s strategic location offers unparalleled access to emerging markets, while its multicultural environment, seamless connectivity, and history of hosting major global events create an empowering experience for delegates. In fact, Dubai was recently named the number one destination in the Middle East for association meetings by ICCA, and the ‘Top Meeting Destination in the Middle East and Africa’ by Cvent.

A key driver behind Dubai's success is its robust public-private partnerships, particularly through Dubai Business Events (DBE), the official convention bureau of the city. DBE has been instrumental in attracting key global events, including the Critical Communications World CCW 2024, WCA Annual Conference 2024, and the Million Dollar Round Table Global Conference 2024. The city’s business events calendar has already secured major events through 2029, showcasing its proactive approach under the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33.
