Dubai Culture promoted Emirati heritage to FIBA World U17 Basketball Championship
The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirates dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, promoted Emirati heritage at the FIBA World U17 Basketball Championship with traditional activities that aimed at educating international visitors on the nations rich history.
The 2014 FIBA World Under-17 Basketball Championship is an international basketball competition, where 16 national teams competed in the tournament. The preliminary round was held at Al Ahli and Al Wasl, while the final round was held at the Hamdan Sports Complex.
The third edition also marked the first time the FIBA World U17 Basketball Championship was held outside Europe.
As part of its support, Dubai Culture setup a heritage tent, encompassing of Areesh, traditional accessories and a majlis-style seating arrangement. Two women dressed in the customary Emirati outfits provided vivid glimpses into the UAEs handicrafts history.
