DEWA celebrates World Environment Day 2015

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated World Environment Day this year, whose theme is Seven billion dreams. One planet. Consume with Care, at DEWAs headquarters, in the presence of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and huge number of staff. This is one of a range of activities DEWA is committed to promoting, to build a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness.
The event comprised hosting numerous activities, lectures and awareness films to encourage environmentally friendly behaviour, promote the conservation of natural resources, and build a committed and responsible lifestyle that values the environment. The activities also involved a display of a tree, which represents life, and the triangular approach to waste management that comprises reducing, reusing, and recycling.

We are supporting the goals of the long-term Green Economy for Sustainable Development national initiative, announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We are supporting our leaderships vision to establish the UAE as a global leader in sustainability and in the export and re-export of green products and technologies, to maintain a sustainable environment that supports long-term economic growth, said Al Tayer.

Our activities are also aligned to the goals of the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021, to make the Emirate a smart and sustainable city, sustainable with its resources and have a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. We are at work to develop partnerships with all sectors of society to progress environmental action through comprehensive awareness campaigns to disseminate the culture of water and electricity consumption and to protect the environment. DEWA participates in the implementation of the carbon abatement strategy, launched by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 16% by 2021. The various organisations of Dubai Government are currently implementing this strategy, said Al Tayer.
We participate in the activities of World Environment Day based on our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. We implement global standards and best environmental practices, in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency of environmental protection and natural resources, added Al Tayer.

Adding to our list of achievements, DEWA has recently received a five star certificate for environment for the fourth time from the British Safety Council. DEWA also received from the British Safety Council the Globe of Honour for Environment for the third year in a row, for excellence in environmental management, concluded Al Tayer.

DEWA has launched Green Bill, which is an electronic version of the traditional paper bill that customers obtain via e-mail. DEWA encourages customers to take benefit of the electronic facilities provided to use them. DEWA aims to adopt this system to conserve natural resources and promote customer satisfaction
