Al Ayala Performances Set To Fascinate Crowds Across Abu Dhabi.
A series of Al Ayala dances will be held across Abu Dhabi, showcasing the emirate and UAE's cultural identity as part of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority's (TCA Abu Dhabi) Music Programme 2015/16.
The first display will be held at the East Plaza at Abu Dhabi Corniche on Friday, 11th December at 5pm with routine performances continuing up until May 2016.
Generally called the 'stick dance', this conventional UAE folk dance is accompanied by drumming and carried out by two rows of dancers facing one another. Dancers are positioned close together in rows, symbolizing the unity and co-operation among tribal individuals.
Inscribed in 2014 UNESCO's representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Al Ayala Dance Art reflects the UAE's rich cultural heritage and customs.
Al Ayala is still performed in both metropolitan and rural neighborhoods throughout the nation for various social and nationwide occasions. As a genuine expression of life and custom-mades, it represents the very essence of the Emirates, combining sung poetry along with dancing and drumming.
The TCA Abu Dhabi Music Programme has integrated the Al Ayala performances in order to pursue its goal to revitalise the traditional performing arts of the UAE and to encourage cultural diversity through an ongoing intercultural exchange.
Sara Alshakar from TCA Abu Dhabi said: "We are really pleased that the sounds of our rich UAE heritage will be heard throughout in Abu Dhabi. It is the objective of TCA's Music programme to promote and protect the Emirates' mythology. We hope that the series of occasion will convey to the general public the feeling of pride of being an Emirati and the desire to share our important culture with others.".
The performances will happen on Fridays at different areas on Abu Dhabi Corniche and Al Bateen Beach. The objective will be to showcase the authentic art of Al Ayala dance along with the culture and spirit of chivalry that still specifies individuals of the region.
Open to everyone, the Al Ayala dance efficiencies are intended to become popular social events, symbolising Abu Dhabi's identity.
