Ajman University has been awarded the prestigious Gold Category for the Middle East region in the "Sustainability Education Action" category at the QS Reimagine Education Awards 2024. The recognition comes for its groundbreaking "Greening Communities: Mangrove Planting Project," which has set new benchmarks in environmental education and sustainability.

Since its launch in 2023, the project has achieved remarkable milestones, including the planting of over 2,000 mangrove trees, the engagement of more than 1,000 community members, and significant contributions toward the UAE's national goal of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030.

Collaborative Efforts Driving Sustainability

The initiative, led by Ajman University’s Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Al Zorah Development Private Company and Quest for Adventure, involves students and local communities in preserving and restoring vital mangrove ecosystems. These efforts align with the UAE’s broader sustainability objectives and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, expressed pride in the recognition, stating, “Receiving the Gold Category for the Middle East region at the QS Reimagine Education Awards is a powerful validation of our sustainability efforts.
