Understanding Dubai Taxi Roof Colors and Their Significance
Dubai's taxis are known for their distinctive colored roofs, which are more than just aesthetic choices. These colors signify the different taxi operators working under the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), ensuring uniformity while maintaining service diversity.
Why Do Dubai Taxis Have Different Roof Colors?
In the past, Dubai’s taxi services were run by independent private companies, each with its own distinct branding. However, in the late 2000s, a standardized color scheme was introduced—making all taxis sand-colored with only their roofs distinguishing the company they belong to. This system helps passengers and officials quickly identify taxis for booking, lost item retrieval, or complaints.
Despite these differences, all taxis operate under the same RTA regulations, maintaining consistent fare rates across the fleet.
What Do the Colors Mean?
Red Roof: Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC)

What is a Hala Taxi?
While some may assume "Hala Taxi" is another company, it is actually the name of the booking platform used to hail RTA taxis via the Careem app. It is a collaboration between RTA and Careem to make taxi booking more convenient.
Dubai’s taxi system is designed for efficiency, accessibility, and passenger convenience. Whether you're hailing a ride on the street or booking through an app, understanding these colors makes navigating the city's transport system easier.
