Sheikh Hamdans Seven Shifts Shaping the Future of Cities
As the hologram delivered the visions for the future. the audience experienced a feeling of being addressed from the future. Hamdan’s hologram stood at the centre with two giant screens on either side as he unveiled before a curious audience, his visions for the future of the city.
The presentation was a mixture of cutting-edge technology put to the best, comprising visual aids, infographics, futuristic videos and life-like images. While marching ahead of others in innovation, technology and ease of life, he equally pressed on the country’s global status as a model of tolerance and coexistence, where over 220 different nationalities live in peace.
Hamdan’s hologram further went on to throw light to the ‘Seven Shifts Shaping Future Cities’, as he stood flanked by images and videos that transposed the audience into the future.
1. Infrastructure
The foremost shift seeks to address the need to redesign cities to provide a better quality of life while ensuring that all requirements of the people are met within a radius of less than 20 minutes.
2. Mobility
Reduce commute times with new modes of transportation like Hyperloop and flying taxis, setting the citizens free of the daily traffic woes that kill happiness.
3. Artificial Intelligence
A higher input from Artificial Intelligence with its increased use along with other smart devices that are expected to make the cities more intelligent, crime-free and peaceful.
4. Consumption
A shift from being merely a consumer to playing both the producer and the consumer at the same time with environment-friendly homes. Reducing the cost of production by switching to modern sources of production such as solar energy. Horizontal farms inside cities.
5. Competition
A metamorphosis from competing in infrastructure to competing in talent, tolerance, cooperation and prosperity. Future cities to be a food basket for individuals. Cities will be powered by tolerance for which Dubai is an excellent example.
6. Economy
Exchange of ideas and information through ‘blockchain technology’. Data to be the new economy exceeding oil. Cities having wells of data and shared economy to revolutionize the concept of consumption.
7. Government
Governance to consist of agile leadership. Partnering with society to brainstorm solutions. The availability of data together with the Internet of Things to help leaders measure policies better along with the deployment of innovation to ensure the well-being of its citizens.
