Saeed Mubarak Al Ahbabi: Second-Generation Legacy Preservation in the Art of Camel Racing

In the UAE, the art of camel racing has flourished, as Saeed Mubarak Al Ahbabi is determined to provide a cultural perspective on the sport in addition to its competitive spirit. An incredible multifaceted personality, Al Ahbabi is a competent owner, trainer, and artisan. Most people did not abandon him in a way that would diminish his passion for the worship of a bygone culture.

For him, camel racing has never been only about the sport but much more about culture and pride. "Camel racing is part of our identity," he explains. "It reflects our connection with these magnificent animals and pays tribute to the legacy of our ancestors. Every race is an homage to them." An Al Ahbabi is involved in every activity surrounding the camels—from race days, breeding, and training to all the finer aspects of sports performance preparation for individual camels and conditioning them physically and mentally for the highest-level competition.

In our lands, the breeding, raising, and training of camels is indeed considered a noble art, and Al Ahbabi's painstaking manner is to maintain the very authenticity and renown of the sport itself.

A moment in history for him was April 16, 2022, Round 11 (Al-Tawri), when one of his camels put on a breathtaking performance. It was not just a victory but a moment of greatness forged by effort and tradition. From Al Ahbabi's assessment of his achievement: "This was more than a win—it was a celebration of hard work, reverence, and the timeless value of our cultural roots."

On October 28, another camel stunned with its strength, speed, and endurance in round 22, garnering Al Ahbabi the esteemed Federation Badge. "Camel racing isn’t just about speed," he explained. "It is about understanding the animal and embracing the deep heritage embedded in the sport."

Al Ahbabi's love for camel racing ties in with Emirati culture at large. From beginning to end, he is very respectful toward these animals and the traditions that come with this sport. It is the pursuit of excellence, combined with a strong belief in traditions, meaning he is more than just a competitor and, more importantly, the true preserver of culture, that truly distinguishes him from others.

He asserts that his victories surpass his accomplishments, serving as a tribute to his predecessors and the continued existence of the camel racing tradition in the UAE. "Every victory I achieve," says Al Ahbabi, "goes to my ancestors, the famous history of camel racing, and the bright future of this noble sport."
