United Arab Bank and Canon Launch Carbon Compensation Program for Sustainable Printing in UAE
United Arab Bank (UAB) and Canon Middle East have joined forces to introduce Canon's Climate Project Contribution Program in the UAE, aimed at offsetting carbon emissions from business printing operations. This initiative marks a significant step toward promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental footprint of corporate activities in the region.
The partnership has already achieved a measurable impact, compensating for 20 tons of CO2 emissions generated from UAB's fleet of 90 printing systems. The program accounts for emissions from ink, paper, and electricity consumption, enabling organizations to invest in certified environmental projects such as reforestation, verified by the Gold Standard, a leading third-party verifier.
Sustainability at the Core of UAB’s Vision
Dr. Abdulla AlTaee, Chief Operating Officer at United Arab Bank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to embedding sustainability across its operations, stating, “This collaboration reflects UAB’s belief in the power of collective efforts to drive meaningful change. By partnering with Canon, we take another step toward aligning with the UAE's climate change agenda.”
UAB’s sustainability framework rests on five strategic pillars: Corporate Governance, Responsible Banking, Workforce Development, Social Impact, and Environmental Stewardship. The bank has introduced Green Sustainable Finance products, including preferential financing for sustainable housing and electric or hybrid vehicles, showcasing its alignment with the UAE’s climate goals ahead of COP28 in Dubai.
Canon’s Holistic Approach to Environmental Stewardship
Shadi Bakhour, B2B Business Unit Director at Canon Middle East, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with UAB represents a paradigm shift in sustainable business practices. Through Canon’s Climate Project Contribution, we aim to create a sustainable blueprint that benefits businesses and the environment alike.”
Canon’s approach incorporates Managed Print Services and advanced digital workflow solutions to reduce energy consumption and optimize operations. Their climate compensation projects span multiple continents, including wind energy developments in Asia and reforestation efforts in Europe and South America.
A Commitment to Verified Sustainability
Canon’s initiatives are certified by Gold Standard and authenticated by Climate Partner, ensuring adherence to ISO16759:2013 standards for carbon footprint measurement. This dual validation guarantees the credibility of their efforts in combating climate change.
A Blueprint for Sustainable Business Practices
This partnership sets a benchmark for sustainable corporate practices in the UAE and beyond. It not only addresses immediate ecological concerns but also creates a foundation for future generations to thrive in a more sustainable world.
