Over 3,500 players take centre stage at Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup, the region’s largest youth football tournament

The Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup concluded its record-breaking seventh edition after three days of competitive youth football at Zayed Sports City, drawing more than 3,500 young players and over 8,000 spectators.

Recognised as the region’s largest annual youth football tournament, the event welcomed 244 teams from 18 countries, featuring a mix of professional clubs and grassroots sides. Participating teams included Al Jazira, Baniyas, Al Wahda, Al Ain, Melbourne City and Manchester City, competing across eight age categories.

The expanded three-day format was introduced this year to meet growing international demand and resulted in 1,435 matches and 2,562 goals. Five boys’ and three girls’ age groups took part, reflecting the tournament’s continued growth and its increasing focus on inclusivity.

The boys’ Under-16 Cup was won by Oman’s Al Seeb, marking back-to-back victories for the team. As part of a prize draw among Cup winners, Al Seeb secured a trip to a City Football Group club, where players will train and attend a first-team match. The team previously won a similar experience in Manchester after their 2025 triumph.

In the girls’ competition, Singapore’s Resistencia FC claimed the Under-14 Plate title and, following a lucky draw, earned a three-day coaching clinic led by City Football Schools coaches.

Girls’ participation also continued to rise, with 44 teams competing across three age groups, highlighting the steady development of the women’s game in the UAE, the wider Middle East and internationally.

Former Manchester City defender and tournament ambassador Nedum Onuoha praised the standard of play and the atmosphere across the three days. He said the tournament played a vital role in grassroots football by providing young players with opportunities to compete, learn and create lasting memories in a positive and supportive environment.

Beyond the matches, the Tournament City Village offered a range of entertainment and fan experiences. The e& Gaming Zone returned following its successful debut in 2025, allowing participants to compete in FC26. PUMA showcased its latest football boots and apparel, Aldar highlighted its Fahid Island development, and Noon hosted games and giveaways for visitors.

Attendees also had the opportunity to watch Manchester City’s 10–1 victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup third-round fixture.

Simon Hewitt, Head of Football Operations MENA at City Football Group and Tournament Director of the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup, said the 2026 edition demonstrated football’s power to bring people together across cultures and nationalities. He added that the strong turnout and vibrant atmosphere underscored the tournament’s growth over seven editions, with planning already underway to further evolve the event in 2027.
