The "Humanitarian Personality of the Year 2023" award has been conferred upon His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Sharqi, the Crown Prince of Fujairah, marking a historic moment as the World Taekwondo Federation presents this accolade for the first time. The prestigious recognition underscores His Highness's exceptional contributions to humanitarian efforts and steadfast support for refugees on a global scale, particularly within the taekwondo community, where he has played a pivotal role in offering care and assistance.
Dr. Chungwon Choue, President of the World Taekwondo Federation, bestowed the award upon His Highness in the distinguished presence of continental federation presidents, executive board members of the World Federation, and taekwondo association presidents from across the globe. The ceremony unfolded at Al Rumailah Palace in Fujairah, encapsulating a momentous occasion.
Expressing profound gratitude for the World Taekwondo Federation's dedication to advancing the combat sports sector, His Highness, the Crown Prince of Fujairah, underscored the Emirate's commitment to the sports domain. Guided by the visionary leadership and support of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, the aim is to position Fujairah as a prominent hub for major sporting events. His Highness emphasized the humanitarian responsibility of supporting athletes from diverse backgrounds, recognizing the positive impact on the sports community. This prestigious award, a first for the World Taekwondo Federation, pays tribute to the charitable and humanitarian endeavors of His Highness, the Crown Prince of Fujairah. The announcement was made during a ceremony in Manchester, United Kingdom, held in December last year. His Highness receiving this accolade serves as a testament to the United Arab Emirates' commitment to humanitarian and national values, supporting the underprivileged globally and ensuring a dignified life for all individuals, regardless of their geographical location.
The award coincided with the commencement of the 4th edition of the Arab Taekwondo Cup, taking place from February 1-2, and the 11th edition of the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship. With a substantial participation of over 3,700 athletes, these events extend until February 7, serving as crucial platforms for Olympic athletes qualified for the Paris Olympics. Additionally, they mark the initiation of the global Taekwondo season, providing an excellent opportunity for the development of skills and abilities among national team players while facilitating the transfer of international experiences to the Emirate of Fujairah.
